Ithaca College Startup Business Plan Demo Day
Location: Rev: Ithaca Startup Works
Time: April 18, 5:00 – 7:30 PM
Students with fully formed plans for launching a business, and those who have recently launched, will have the opportunity to pitch to seasoned entrepreneurs for a share of $18,000 in cash for their business. Six businesses will give a ten-minute presentation about their company, followed by five minutes of Q&A from a panel of experienced judges. After deliberation, the panel of judges will determine which teams will be allocated a portion of the funding based on the viability of their business and the quality of their presentation.
Who will have the best plans? What great ideas are students working on? Is there a company that I’d like to join? Come and be a part of the audience to find out and cast your vote for the Audience Choice award!  We will also be awarding a Sustainability Award for $500 to the team that demonstrates the best sustainability practices.
A reception and awards ceremony will follow the presentations. Prize awards for each team will be announced at the reception. RSVP here.

How can you maximize networking opportunities for your entrepreneurial journey in 5,400 seconds? Come to the Meet & Repeat hosted by the Pillsbury Institute for Hospitality Entrepreneurship! At Meet & Repeat, students practice their pitching skills by presenting an elevator pitch about themselves or a business idea while building and expanding their networks. This is also a great opportunity to expand your network by meeting over fifteen industry leaders and entrepreneurs from across the globe. Generation Startup Film Screening & Game Night

The documentary captures the struggles and triumphs of six recent college graduates who put everything on the line to build startups in Detroit. Shot over 17 months, it’s an honest, in-the-trenches look at what it takes to launch a startup. Directed by Academy Award winner Cynthia Wade and award-winning filmmaker Cheryl Miller Houser, the film celebrates risk-taking, urban revitalization, and diversity while delivering a vital call-to-action – with entrepreneurship at a record low, the country’s economic future is at stake. Immediately following the film is a networking event (7-9pm) with food, at 8pm starts GAME NIGHT!

The Next Big Thing: Board Game for Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital starts at 8PM. A board game for people who are interested in being startup superheroes & changing the world. Players take on the role founders to create the next big thing, bootstrapping using their initial cash savings and skills to create an MVP, gain initial traction, and then go on to raise multiple rounds of capital, increasing the value of their company, while also diluting their ownership.  Players experience many of the ups and downs of the entrepreneurial journey. eLab Demo Day

Witness Cornell’s student startups on the journey to greatness at Demo Day 2017, part of the Entrepreneurship at Cornell Celebration. Established in 2008, by Student Agencies Foundation in collaboration with Entrepreneurship at Cornell, eLab has worked with hundreds of students in turning concepts into real businesses with notable exits.

Startup Tactics: From Accounting to Zoning, Tactical Considerations When Starting a New Company

Women in Leadership: Bias, Barriers and Strategies for Overcoming Them

What impact do gender stereotypes and bias have upon women’s ascent to and success in leadership roles? Drawing on the latest academic research and 20 years of experience as an analyst, investor, and corporate director, this talk will explore the complex web of beliefs and biases that often stymie efforts to move more women into the C-suite. We will also discuss strategies for individuals and organizations to start overcoming them.
Dr. Susan Fleming is a Senior Lecturer at Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration with expertise in the areas of finance, insurance, business strategy, negotiation, organizational behavior and issues of gender diversity. She currently serves on the board of Virtus Investment Partners, Inc., a publicly traded asset management firm; and Endurance Specialty Holdings, Ltd., a publicly traded global insurance and reinsurance company. Before retiring from Wall Street in 2004, Susan was a Partner with Capital Z Partners, L.P., a $1.85 billion private equity fund focused on investing in the financial services sector and an Analyst in M&A at Morgan Stanley.
